February Cornerstone: Teamwork
Lessons from Boys in the Boat
From Boys in the Boat, the unlikely true story of the University of Washington rowing crew who won the gold medal at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin.
"Great crews may have men or women of exceptional talent or strength; they may have outstanding coxswains or stroke oars or bowmen; but they have no stars. The team effort— the perfectly synchronized flow of muscle, oars, boat, and water; the single, whole, unified, and beautiful symphony that a crew in motion becomes— is all that matters. Not the individual, not the self."
Lesson 2: Self Sacrifice
One of the greatest barriers to teamwork is our natural tendency to focus on ourselves: to put our individual needs above the team's. As humans, this is our default setting. But, to become great , we have to intentionally work to overcome our innate tendency to put ourselves first.
Weekly Schedule
National Schools Counseling Week highlights the important work our school mental health professionals do to support students across the country. I am so grateful to the dedicated school counselors, social workers, and psychologists in District 93 who provide guidance, support, and love to our students. We cannot design success for every student without the support of our dedicated mental health professionals. Their work to support students' emotional well being, to help them learn how to have positive interactions with peers, to have healthy views of themselves, and to develop good decision making skills are essential to the success of our students. Thank you!

Feed a Village
The Thunder Ridge National Honor Society is fundraising this February to Feed the Dergachi Village in Ukraine. For the past two years, the villagers that survived the invasion have been living in their damaged or destroyed homes. There is nowhere to go as any nearby shelters are full. They do not have access to electricity, clean water, and other basic necessities needed to survive since they are so close to the frontlines of the war with Russia. The charity “To Ukraine with Love” has organized a program known as Feed a Village which provides food for these villagers. For every $10,000 raised, 1,000 people receive two hot meals each day for an entire month. That is $10 to feed a person for an entire month! Our goal is to raise at least $20,000 with the help of our school & community. Every little bit helps from $1-$1000. These meals not only feed people in a desperate situation, they provide hope. Help Us Help Them.
100% of your donation is used to provide meals and is tax deductible.
