Superintendent's Message
Positivity
Crucial Conversations says that we need to learn to “Master our stories.”
The Anatomy of Peace tells us to honor our intentions by recognizing when we’re “in the box” with someone else.
The Art of Possibility tells us to “Give others an A” by giving them a possibility to live up to.
Regardless of the language, the consistent message is that we need to assume positive intentions in others and recognize when we’re seeing others as an obstacle instead of as a person.
Being positive does not mean that we never let ourselves feel a negative emotion. Instead, being positive means that we strive to act on our values instead of our feelings.
This is never more important than when we are interacting with others. The key is to recognize when our feelings about another person or situation are putting us in the box with them. While the box may be invisible, it is still readily apparent by the words we use to describe the other person. When that happens, we can choose to tell ourselves a different story about them, or we can ask questions to help us better understand the reasons for their behaviors.
To quote President Lincoln, we should strive to listen to "the better angels of our nature." This is what we mean by positivity and it is the bedrock of every successful relationship.
Weekly Schedule
D93 Live will be live on Monday, November 13th at 8:00 pm. Hope you can join us.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of our employees, our families and our community, we collected more than $5,000 for our Thanksgiving dinner boxes. This will allow us to provide Thanksgiving dinner for more than 120 families.
Costco is also generously donating a spiral ham to include with the boxes and Maverik is donating money to pay for the families' pumpkin pies.
D93 Board News
It's Official! Willow Creek Elementary
Thanks to everyone who shared your top 3 choices for our new elementary school. Willow Creek Elementary School was clearly the most preferred name, and last night the Board officially accepted our recommendation to make this the name of our new elementary school.
We are planning to sell the bonds to fund the construction of Willow Creek Elementary on Tuesday. In the Board meeting last night, Michael Keith, the Board's municipal advisor shared that interest rates are have trended downward which could mean savings to our taxpayers. If any local patrons are interested in purchasing bonds, the file below shares how these can be purchased through Schwab.

Opportunities for Students
Idaho Day Student Contest
Each year the Bonneville County Heritage Association (BCHA) sponsors several student contests to celebrate Idaho Day (the anniversary of the day President Abraham Lincoln created the Idaho Territory in 1863). All Bonneville County students in grades 4 and 7-12 are invited to participate. A variety of contests are offered (e.g., map drawing, sculpting, painting, photography, handwriting, essays, poetry, and song writing) and students may enter as many contests as they desire. The theme for this year’s contests is “Transportation in Idaho”.
Cash prizes are awarded to all first-place winners and prizes are given to second and third place winners as well. All contest entries are displayed during the BCHA’s annual Idaho Day Celebration held on March 4th. All contest winners (1st-3rd place) will be invited to the celebration where they will be recognized.
To enter a contest, submit the entry to Todd Brown at the Idaho Falls School District Administration building, 690 John Adams Parkway, any time before 5:00 p.m., January 26, 2024. Please include the student’s name, grade, school (if applicable), contest entered, and phone number on the back of the entry or on an index card accompanying the entry. Entries will be returned to students following the Idaho Day Celebration.
